The Graduate Research Awards for Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-proliferation (GRA) is an annual competition offered by The Simons Foundation Canada and the International Security Research and Outreach Programme (ISROP) of Global Affairs Canada. The primary objective of the Awards is to enhance Canadian graduate level scholarship on non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament (NACD) issues.
W2I is a crucial initiative pursuing the prevention of genocide and other crimes against humanity. After Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur, genocide experts understand that pressuring political leaders to stop crimes against humanity before they become genocides has been ineffective. We know what is happening and early warnings are sounded, but governments are slow to react and intervene effectively.
In 2002, The Simons Foundation and Project Ploughshares, in partnership with Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada), initiated what has become the Outer Space Security Conference Series organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.  The Simons Foundation continued to partner with UNIDIR and fund the Outer Space Security Conferences held to inform the UN Conference on Disarmament on the issue of space security, the peaceful uses of outer space and the prevention of an arms race in outer space until our Space and Cyber Security programme was closed in 2020.

The report by Ernie Regehr, O.C., Senior Fellow in Arctic Security and Defence at The Simons Foundation Canada, and Kelsey Gallagher, a Researcher with Project Ploughshares, identifies 69 continuously staffed Arctic military sites in the five states with Arctic Ocean coastlines and discusses the challenges of reducing strategic tensions and recovering diplomacy. As Canada’s first northern indigenous Governor General, Mary Simon, has reminded all Arctic states, there is a need “to figure out how [they] can continue working together when a terrible war is going on [which is] contradictory to the rules-based international order.”
