Shauna Sylvester

Shauna Sylvester has been working to support democratic development initiatives in Canada and around the world for over 25 years. She is a Fellow at the Simon Fraser University Centre for Dialogue where she is currently the founding Executive Director of Carbon Talks, a national initiative to accelerate Canada’s shift to a low-carbon economy. From 2006-2010 she led Canada’s World - the most comprehensive citizen’s consultation on Canadian foreign policy in history.

Formerly she was the founding Executive Director of IMPACS – the Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society an organization working to strengthen democracy and support media development in Canada and in conflict and post-conflict zones around the world.

Shauna Sylvester has written and edited several publications related to democracy, peace, and Canadian foreign policy. She is a consultant to governments, media and foundations on issues as varied as human rights, international relations and the environment. She is a valued advisor to Dr. Jennifer Simons in helping her to expand the influence of The Simons Foundation.

In 2003, she was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in the Globe and Mail after receiving a similar award in 2000 by Business in Vancouver Magazine.
